Using Maple on a Tablet PC with MoboMath
MoboMath's handwritten equation editor lets you easily build Maple worksheets with your pen on a tablet PC or external tablet. To get started, just follow the steps below.
First, if you don't already have MoboMath, you can download a trial version here.
For best results, you should use combined presentation and content MathML when working with Maple. This is the default setting, but you can check it by choosing “Configure export” in the Export menu. Now you’re ready to enter and evaluate math expressions with Maple. |
Write a math expression in the MoboMath window as you normally would on paper.
Tap the Enter button in the MoboMath toolbar to translate your handwritten entry into a formatted math expression.
Drag or copy and paste your translated expression into your Maple worksheet.
When Maple sees your expression, it asks whether to add it as 2D math. Tap “Yes” to insert the expression into your worksheet.
To complete your expression, you can either enter it normally or select an option from Maple’s context menu.
To evaluate your expression, press the Enter button next to your tablet PC’s screen, or press the Enter key if your keyboard is available. To access the context menu, right tap or tap and hold the expression with your pen. If your pen has a button on the side, pressing that button while tapping is usually equivalent to a right-click. |
Don’t stop now. By repeating steps 2 through 5, you can continue entering and evaluating expressions to build an entire Maple worksheet, all without using the keyboard or Maple palettes. It’s almost like building your worksheet on paper. |
Additional Tips
Before you begin, you may want to rerun the Configuration Wizard and check your settings in the Grammar menu to be sure all the math elements and symbols that you use in Maple are enabled.
If you see any errors when your handwritten entry is converted to a formatted math expression, you can use MoboMath's editing tools to correct them. See the MoboMath documentation for details.
If you also use MoboMath with other applications, be sure to change your export format back to MathML if necessary whenever you want to use MoboMath with Maple.
Maple and MoboMath communicate using MathML, an XML standard for exchanging math expressions. Before you begin, be sure to set the MoboMath export format to MathML using the Export menu. You can verify your current export setting in the MoboMath title bar.
