Using MoboMath with Maple on a Tablet PC

MoboMath's handwritten equation editor lets you easily build Maple worksheets with your pen on a tablet PC or external tablet. To get started, just follow the steps below.

First, if you don't already have MoboMath, you can download a trial version here.

1 Set MoboMath's export format to Maple

Export menuSelect Maple from the MoboMath Export menu. This initializes the settings needed to exchange math expressions with Maple and enables the use of many of Maple's built-in functions in MoboMath.

MoboMath recognizes many of the most popular Maple functions, including solve, simplify, expand, factor, value, eval, plot, and numerous math functions. These allow you to build highly functional Maple worksheets using only handwritten input.

Now you’re ready to enter and evaluate math expressions with Maple.

2 Write an expression in MoboMath

Write a math expression in the MoboMath window as you normally would on paper.

When Maple sees your expression, it asks whether to add it as 2D math. Tap “Yes” to insert the expression into your worksheet.

5 Evaluate your expression

To complete your expression, you can either enter it normally or select an option from Maple’s context menu.

To evaluate your expression, press the Enter button next to your tablet PC’s screen, or press the Enter key if your keyboard is available.

To access the context menu, right tap or tap and hold the expression with your pen. If your pen has a button on the side, pressing that button while tapping is usually equivalent to a right-click.

6 Continue working

Don’t stop now. By repeating steps 2 through 5, you can continue entering and evaluating expressions to build an entire Maple worksheet, all without using the keyboard or Maple palettes.

Additional Tips

Before you begin, you may want to rerun the Configuration Wizard and check your settings in the Grammar menu to be sure all the math elements and symbols that you use in Maple are enabled.

If you see any errors when your handwritten entry is converted to a formatted math expression, you can use MoboMath's editing tools to correct them. See the MoboMath documentation for details.

Remember that you can use many Maple functions as well as standard math expressions. However, special arguments and options of some of these functions are not currently supported.

If you also use MoboMath with other applications, be sure to check your export format whenever you want to use MoboMath with Maple.
