International Support in MoboCalc
MoboCalc 1.1 offers improved support for international users who do not have English language versions of Excel.
This page contains important information and tips for international users, including supported languages, usage guidelines, and limitations. If you plan to use MoboCalc with a non-English language version of Excel, please review the items below.
Which languages are supported?
Since MoboCalc uses Microsoft Windows handwriting recognition for text entries, full support is limited to the set of languages supported by Microsoft. Currently, these include:
|
||||||||||||
Microsoft also supports Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese, but MoboCalc has not yet been tested with these languages.
Are localized versions of MoboCalc available for these languages?
Not yet. This means that dialogs, menus, help, and function names will appear in English. If you are interested in a version of MoboCalc for your local language, please email
to let us know. Future localization decisions will be based on user interest.
Can I use local standards for decimal, date, time, and currency formats?
Yes. MoboCalc supports local decimal and list separators, date and time formats, and currency symbols in exactly the same way as Excel.
Are there any restrictions on what I can enter?
There are no restrictions on entries that are not formulas, such as normal text or numeric cell values. For formulas, there are two restrictions to keep in mind:
- Accented and non-Latin characters are not supported in formulas, except within quoted text strings. In particular, these characters are not recognized in range, worksheet, or file names. However, you can freely use accented characters in normal text entries and in quoted text strings in formulas, so this restriction should not affect most worksheets.
- Since this is an English language version, English function names must be used for formulas in MoboCalc. MoboCalc automatically translates local function names to English for display, and translates English function names to their local equivalents when entering a formula in Excel. All of MoboCalc's symbolic function shortcuts such as ∑ will work properly for your local language.
